Ocean

New duty collection portal stirs concerns among Canadian importers. The upcoming CARM platform aims to modernize Canada’s duty collection, but importers report early onboarding issues. Delays and rising costs could affect cross border trade and Consumers.

Ports

Record breaking volumes at the Port of Los Angeles. The port recorded its highest volume of TEU’s in September, reaching 954,706 units. Projections suggest that it could handle up to $1 trillion worth of imports per quarter.

Chattogram Port Resumes operations after strike, but backlog remains. A 34 hour strike over wages and conditions halted cargo flow at Bangladesh’s busiest port. Although strike is over, container congestion continues to disrupt logistics, with the risk of further strikes if demands aren’t fully addressed by authorities.

Port of Montreal expands grain export capacity amid ongoing labor disputes. The port is expanding its grain containerization capabilities with a $12.5 million investment, a move aimed at strengthening the region's supply chain. However, ongoing labor disputes, including an unresolved overtime ban and a failed mediation attempt, continue to challenge operations.

Trucking

Ontario introduces legislation to accelerate highway construction. The province is fast- tracking key projects like Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass with 24/7 construction and streamlined approvals, aiming to ease traffic congestion and meet growing infrastructure demands.

Trucks fined $5,000 for using restricted road after Hurricane Helene destroyed local roadways. Violators driving through the national park have caused collisions with other vehicles, crashed into a wall, and even had one truck’s brakes catch fire.

Rail

Canada invests $38 million to boost Quebec’s Port and Rail Infrastructure. The funding will improve capacity at key ports like Quebec City and Montreal, with a focus on railyard upgrades to reduce bottlenecks and boost economic growth along the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Air

Manufacturing of the largest unmanned cargo aircraft completed in China. With a maximum payload of five tons, the aircraft is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2026.

International

Panama's President has issued a decree canceling any vessel on the international sanctions list. This new order supplements previous regulations from the Panama Maritime Authority regarding vessel cancellations.

Technology

PSA International pilots sustainable electrification at Singapore Port. PSA and Amperesand will test solid-state transformer technology to decarbonize port operations, focusing on efficient charging for PSA’s electric fleet.
